Eva Madárová

Graphite Artist - Myth Weaver

Meet the Myth Weaver

Eva Madarova is a graphite artist originally from the Czech Republic, currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Waving goodbye to the familiar and moving to Scotland sparked a change in Eva’s outlook on her Slavic roots, igniting boundless curiosity in the culture she came from.

Working exclusively in pencil, Eva creates detailed drawings that explore myth, memory and symbology. Her practice is inspired by striking silhouettes and organic movement of Art Nouveau.

Reflecting on Slavic folklore, mythology and cyclical forces of nature, Eva weaves together the threads between the myth and human experience of life.

We follow a luminous thread flowing from the heart of Mokosh, the goddess who spins and protects the fate of mankind. Below her Morana, the goddess of death, rebirth and transition, is holding the thread and prepares to cut it -marking the inevitable end of a mortal life.

Between them drifts a soul of a young boy, suspended in silence between life and death.

The glowing thread is a reminder of our place in the grand tapestry of life.
